This guide is written as an operating framework. Exact limits still depend on the organism, system volume, equipment and local rules.
Choose wide containers
Surface area supports gas exchange and makes harvesting easier. Avoid deep stagnant vessels.
Feed small suspended meals
Green water, yeast and fine feeds can work, but cloudy water is not a target. Add less and observe clearance.
Protect from predators
Hydra, mosquito larvae, dragonfly nymphs and predatory copepods can enter outdoor cultures. Inspect before feeding.
Harvest selectively
Sieve a portion and return suitable adults. Heavy harvesting can remove the breeding base and trigger a crash.
Run two cultures
Separate tubs reduce the chance that contamination, weather or overfeeding removes the entire supply.
Research and review
